Written for the short story "The Dead." In an ancient Chinese sword fight, the narrator has been run through with a poison-tipped sword. As he slips "into that good night" (to quote Dylan Thomas) he narrates from a gentle twilight of memories and dreams. His killer is also his soul mate.

Also written for the story "Of Loss and Desire." A woman getting out of a treatment clinic tries to recreate the her life. Meeting old friends and remembering her former lifestyle, she realizes the cure includes a lot of loss. This song shows the wistfulness lying over the power, the call from her past.

Written for "Leaving Home," a sci-fi story. Boy leaves his happy home in the psi hinterlands, literally a community of minds, to pursue his love of music in the urbs where tech rules. He thinks that love of music is all he needs, but he's not prepared for the paranoid and invasive tech way of life. It has a happy ending though!
