ARCTIC, long-running members of Project Opus, are proud to kick off the release of their new album, “Today Brought Me Here” with an auction for their master CD. The auction runs from 8:00 PM PST, Sunday September 9 until 8:00 PM PST, Sunday September 16. In typical ARCTIC fashion, they’ve taken this opportunity to help the north by donating half of the proceeds to the World Wildlife Fund.
ARCTIC doesn't want to see their namesake melt away. The Vancouver band is auctioning a signed master CD display of their new album, "Today Brought Me Here", framed along with a license plate from singer/guitarist Marcus Martin's childhood home in the Northwest Territories. Half the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to support their conservation efforts in the Arctic region, which is already significantly affected by climate change.
"We have a responsibility to look after the places that have meaning to us, whether it's looking after the Amazon rainforest or the river that runs through your neighbourhood," says Martin, who developed a deep appreciation and respect for the Northern wilderness while growing up near the Arctic Circle.
Beyond the music, ARCTIC has put a lot of love into making this release a personalized experience for their listeners. Kirsten Bole, bassist and web designer for ARCTIC, has developed a CD cover generator for use with the new album. Visitors can create their own customized design with band logos, arctic images, track listings, credits, and various lyrics from "Today Brought Me Here". As a finishing touch, the band name is burnt into each CD cover by hand.
“These are the types of things that showcase the advantages of being independent,” says Kirsten. “We can make decisions like this and set these ideas up without having to consult with twenty different people, without focus groups and massive expense. We can try a new idea and if it works, it works; if it doesn't, it doesn't. We have enough flexibility to experiment.”
