Holiday tunes!

So with the recent dump of snow in Vancouver, (it looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL!) I am now in the festive, holiday spirits. I bought eggnog, dragged out the indoor and outdoor Christmas lights, put up my wreaths and greenery. Next weekend will be the tree and there's even talk of mulled wine.

In order to get in the spirit of decorating, my husband threw on the iTunes Christmas selection that we listen to each year. I LOVE Christmas music at first and then after a couple of weeks listening to our 100 or so songs, I get thoroughly sick of them and long for some new ones.

People... the crack of the magazine world

Okay, a guilty secret. This year I decided to subscribe to People magazine. I have a toddler. I can only read something that requires a short attention span. And People is about as short as it gets. (And you can all stop looking down your damn noses at me because I know that you're reading it too, whether it's in the checkout line at the grocery store or b/c it's the only alternative to Reader's Digest in your dentist's office.)

What Make Project Opus SO Great

In an earlier life, I spent 6 years overseas living and working in countries like Mexico and Thailand. I was young(er), footloose, and definitely into staying up until 3 or 4 am (sometimes until the next morning) checking out the bar scene with its local and imported musicians. It was always a coup to be the first one to find the hot new bar, the latest, greatest up and comer. Live music was everywhere. And somehow, maybe because it was a foreign place, it was easier for me to approach those musicians and strike up a conversation.

Radio Contests

I have a friend who keeps going to some awesome concerts in the city. She's been to Oz Fest and AudioSlave just to mention a couple, although I know she's seen about four in the last two months. Her sister-in-law is a dedicated radio show contest junkie and keeps winning tickets for the two of them.

I used to try to win those contests when I was a teen. Never had any luck. Maybe this can be my new pasttime...

"The Grapes of Wrath" -- no not the Steinbeck version

Whatever happened to them? I remember as a teenager (a million years ago or so) I used to go to all the summer Indie concerts in the Southern Ontario region. We'd hear great line-ups like Crash Vegas, Lava Hay, Grapes of Wrath, Bootsauce, Andrew Cash.

Last month I was visiting my parent's house and going through old memorabilia when I came across "Now and Again" -- a 1988 or '89 release? I thought I wore the tape out as a teen playing it over and over again in my yellow Sony Walkman.

All My CDs

Does anyone else have boxes of CDs gathering dust? I keep looking at my overflowing CD racks thinking, one day I'll do something about all of this. Right. They've been sitting in the same spot for two years.

Occasionally when I have guests over, I'll drag some out and put them in the machine. Otherwise, I have a very expensive ($8,000 or more) junk pile.

Not that the music is junk. Most of it I like. Most of it was listened to (at some point).
