Connor McGuire is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter from White Rock, British Columbia. He has been writing and performing, both solo and as a band member, for all of his teenage years. Music, performance and the Arts are his complete and single-minded focus.
By the time Connor and his first band Anger and After had graduated from high school, Alex Browne of The Peace Arch News had already dubbed them ..one of the foremost names of the new scene... Tom Harrison of the Vancouver Province described their recordings (including ..Don..t We Look Like Victims..) as "impressively commanding". Connor's father (the singer and songwriter for Canadian rock band Trooper) chronicled some of their successes in his bestselling 2006 book "Here For A Good Time" and their live shows had begun to attract a devoted following of fans.
Anger and After broke up in the summer of 2005, leaving Connor without a band for the first time since elementary school. Frustrated by not being able to find like-minded, committed players, he started to write solely for himself. With no real intention of releasing these songs, he felt free to express exactly how he felt, regardless of consequence.
Working with ProTools and Reason to perform all the parts, McGuire discovered a new freedom that gave birth to more complex and thoughtful songs like ..Sweetly Goodnight.., ..Same City, Different Country.. and ..The End Of The Line... After a year of writing, he decided to release the demos he..d been recording.
His songs - brief dramas played out in the place between appearance and reality, between justice and it's opposite or between the demands of the self and some higher truth - are finely crafted and melodic, sung with a voice full of passion and nuance.
Before he had performed his first show as a solo artist, his new songs had earned over twelve thousand plays at his myspace page. He also appeared, with his dad, on ..Sounds Like Canada.. on the CBC national network, where Shelagh Rogers played one of his recordings. Connor..s recent local acoustic performances have been sold out and successful.
With a wide range of influences, spanning virtually every genre, McGuire takes a unique approach to acoustic music. Though diverse, his melodically driven acoustic songs have found a common link in his honest and sometimes cutting observations on everyday life. He reaches his fans by offering them his personal and unaffected testimony.
McGuire is currently working on new songs and playing shows. He hopes to record and release the results in 2007.
