Make sure you are discovered! The Project Opus team has spent a lot of time making sure that we are EXTREMELY Search Engine Optimized (SEO). What does that mean? I want you to try something:
Most if not all of the bands on Project Opus are registered on multiple sites, but Project Opus will come out near the top. Fred Eaglesmith has dozens of albums out and is represented on Amazon, MySpace, Wikipedia, and All Music among others. If you use Google and search for fred eaglesmith music (His Project Opus listing show up before his Wikipedia or All Music listing)
Buckfast music (New very hot LA band, signed up less than two months ago. Their Project Opus listing is ahead of their amazon, MP3.com, MSN, Pure Volume, Garage band listings.)
This may not seem critical, but if you are an unknown band trying to get a name for yourself it is critical. It is especially important if your name is used by other artists and entertainers this is crucial.
Take Vancouver's popular band Whitfield. Relatively unknown outside Vancouver (not for long!). There are many artists and music related listings using Whitfield in their name. However, if you search for Whitfield music, their Project Opus listing shows up on the first page near the top, while their myspace, pure volume listings do not even come up as they are buried by the other artists using the whitfield name.
IMPORTANT: Not a single band has had to do anything special to get listed like this. However, if you do some small things you can ensure your band is listed near the top of almost any related music search. First, your login name MUST be the same as your performing name. Second, you should have a custom URL with your band name in it. For those with more than one word in their band name, a custom address of, www.projectopus.com/My_Band_Name or www.projectopus.com/My-Band-Name is better than www.projectopus.com/MyBandName
The above is critical when a fan has heard a song from Band X or has been told to check our Band X. But what about searches like I'm looking for bands influenced by the Beatles?
Try searching Google for:
bands influenced by the beatles
bands influenced by the ramones
bands influenced by u2
etc...
As you will notice your Project Opus listing will be above all other listings BUT you must fill out your profiles - especially the "influenced by" and "You'll love our music if you like ..." You need to put proper band names in these fields for it to work properly.
All you need to do is spend 10 minutes filling out your profile and ensuring you have a custom URL.
