Holiday tunes!

Submitted by Mandy on Tue, 2006-11-28 16:24.

So with the recent dump of snow in Vancouver, (it looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL!) I am now in the festive, holiday spirits. I bought eggnog, dragged out the indoor and outdoor Christmas lights, put up my wreaths and greenery. Next weekend will be the tree and there's even talk of mulled wine.

In order to get in the spirit of decorating, my husband threw on the iTunes Christmas selection that we listen to each year. I LOVE Christmas music at first and then after a couple of weeks listening to our 100 or so songs, I get thoroughly sick of them and long for some new ones.

So I'm curious to know... what are your favourite holiday tunes?

I'll start with the Rita McNeil/Barenaked Ladies version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside"

David Totally agree that Baby, It's Cold Outside, is a topper but...

Tom Jones with Cerys From Catalonia is the BEST version of Baby, It's Cold Outside.

However the best Christmas song is Fairytale Of New York by the Pogues and the late Kirsty MacColl.

...U2's Baby Please Come Home for Christmas. As a rule I don't like Xmas songs and I avoid them as best I can, but this one is seems to do it for me. I get a kick out of Band Aid's Do They Know it's Christmas, just to hear all those 80's pop stars in one song. There's also that Linus and Lucy (Peanuts) song that seems to always appear at this time of year. If I had to pick one traditional Xmas song, it would be Little Drummer Boy.

I am loving Vancouver's snow!

Alisha I agree Stephen

I am probably the biggest scrooge anyone will meet, I haven't liked Christmas since I moved away from my family 5 years ago.

but as for Christmas songs two that I always like to listen to are Last Christmas by WHAM and Marys Boy Child by Bonny M

traditional Christmas songs bore me.

i'm usually over it with christmas music before the first week of december is over, but the one i can generally leave in rotation is harry conncik jr.'s 'Harry for the Holidays'.

i know - its the cheesiest title i've ever heard. i think the only thing worse is the pose of him on the front. it kinda seals the deal as the uber grande in fromage....you know like pugs and stuff - so ugly they're cute - same deal here.

aside from that, i've also been know to let a little Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass spin on the 'ol turntable. somehow when its on vinyl, its ok.

Like many already mentioned up here, I'm not a fan of the christmas music. However, there's some instrumental stuff that I like... Specifically the stuff that brings back some good childhood memories, so A Charlie Brown Christmas is certainly at the top of my list. Randomly, I also like the music from the movie Love Actually which is filled to the brim with Christmas music... I even like the cheesy "all I want for christmas is you," remake.... bleh... Like I said, I usually hate christmas music, so that must be my wife's influence...

Peace
