F&*k me Dead

By Tony Newton

Fuck me Dead…best band name ever? Well somehow it ended up on a ‘best of’ list in my kitchen, along with Penis and the Vaginas. You see, insulting the straight population is an art form. Let us say as we please, and we’ll burn this place in thanks. FMD play straight up 80’s era hardcore along the lines of The Germs, with a tad of early Bad religion. They blew out about six songs and were off the stage in fifteen minutes…an epic and inspirational performance indeed.

Revolution Dance Hits…hey wait…that’s my band. How about I tell you my review, from my perspective? Gather around children. The crowd is afraid--what should I say in order to ease tension and draw in the prey? “Don’t be afraid…we won’t hurt you, I promise.” Shit, they’re not going for it, I better play.

Our first song blasts by without a hitch, then disaster strikes. Jeremy breaks his damn high hat. Who breaks a high hat? Song 3, I break…my guitar strap. I leaped across the stage in a valiant attempt to rock and my thick leather strap snaps in two at the shoulder. I stumble around confused with the band carrying on like drunk jedi troopers before finally letting the track die peacefully.

“Can someone get me a strap?” I ask. Point blank stares. This is when I notice that the crowd has moved in closer, in order to magnify the butchery. “Someone get me a &(*&) chair.”

Anyway, the rest of the set I rocked from a stool, just like Neil Young or Fat Elvis. Our songs were pretty tight; it takes more than the wrath of the gods to phase us.

Vancougar write these super catchy little ditties, with cool guitar riffs and dirty synth hooks. They’re a super group of girls and they write kick ass songs.  Tonight was no exception--the ladies were in the house. They won the CiTR Shindig a few years ago when it was hotly contested by certain media that Dandi Wind should have scored that goal. Nobody cares anymore…except journalists.

Ladies Night…wow what a freakishly awesome live performance. One of the ‘Fans,’ leapt behemoth like into the guitarists zone and smashed a bottle over the back of his own head, displaying approval by launching high velocity shards at the band. Obviously an Alpha Male this one, the aggressive music, arousing dormant genes…avoid eye contact. The singer reciprocates, smashing his own bottle on the metal railing, sending broken shards into the grateful audience. All this violence, yet the girls lined up front row to maintain quality dancing positions.

Ladies Night are serious about their rock. They played sloppy, too loudly and obnoxiously…owning the headlining spot. And for anyone who hasn't noticed yet, all the cool kids are appearing on Project Opus.
