Song Description

Finally, I've created a track that is literally entirely my own. This should serve as something of a warning simply because production really isn't my thing, but I'm trying, I'm learning, and I'll only get better if people are critical and give me feedback that I can use to make it better.

The lyrics of this track were originally written for a "beatjacking" mixtape I created last year. However, they are also a glimpse into my life for something like the last five years as I wrote the first verse to it when I was just coming out of my teens. I actually wrote the first verse on a boat while partaking in some "extra-curricular" activity that I've since kicked. It really is biographical towards how my teens were. I wrote the second and third verse about three years ago just before I moved out to NYC for Northern California. I wrote the second and third verse to a track by the fugees, with my girl friend who eventually became my wife. It was specifically written for a show I was doing with a group of kids who were in a diversion program based on hip-hop that I was running before I became a teacher. The last verse was originally written for a song I wrote with one of my students in my after-school program before he moved to jersey.

Since we never actually finished the track I decided to incorporate it into this song simply because it has really become an autobiography of my life. It describes the issues I grew up with in the first two verses, it dicusses some of the solutions I have in mind and finally it paints a really clear picture of what I would consider utopia in the last verse.

Please let me know what you think...

Peace
