Song Description
Chapter 21
The greatest virtue you can have
comes from following only the Tao;
which takes a form that is intangible and evasive.
Even though the Tao is intangible and evasive,
we are able to know it exists.
Intangible and evasive, yet it has a manifestation.
Secluded and dark, yet there is a vitality within it.
Its vitality is very genuine.
Within it we can find order.
Since the beginning of time, the Tao has always existed.
It is beyond existing and not existing.
How do I know where creation comes from?
I look inside myself and see it.

Michael, this is a stunning piece of music that reaches out to me on so many levels.
One can simply choose to take on the meaning of both the title and the poem you provided and listen to this song on a spiritual level with both of these in mind; yet music to me is not about this. Music for me has to leave a lot of room for interpretation sometimes.
This is not to say that I think your choice of poem or title does not work - after all, this piece is the product of your own creativity and being able to understand what 'Gate of Remembrance' means to you, the artist, is beautiful. However, when I listen to a piece of music, I want it, in some way, to reflect something of myself. I want it to mean something to me, for it to be special to me so I can relate and connect. I find I can do this with almost all pieces of profound music; it draws me in and mesmerizes me as I allow it to conjure up images within my mind and emotions within my body.
Even though 'Gate of Remembrance' has a different meaning for me than it does for you, I adore the poem you have chosen to associate with this. I can easily let myself follow the music 'in time' to the poem, if you will, but left alone to contemplate what it evokes from me, I find it carries mystery and uncertainty as well as negative undertones.
Even without looking in depth as to what fueled you to create this and what I feel about it, you are a very talented musician and your piano work is really wonderful. You manage to compose that brilliantly soft and dark mood that underlies the entire piece and I find it strongly emanates both power and beauty.
Any piece of music that manages to connect with me this strongly is a great piece of music.
