how do I edit the left column content

IE. influenced by, you'll love our music if you like..., favorite bands, etc.
I can't for the life of me find where to edit that. It would be nice if there was a little edit button next to it when you're logged in.

It's in the edit sub-menu

Click your Orange Home Button.

Then click edit.
The sub menu will allow you to change your left sidebar.
