One last thing - Uberbelly - why so turned off by WolfMother's name?

Hey Kay, I dunno, it just sounds so pretentious and goofy. Kinda like "DragonSlayer" or some other such ilk. Ooooh, scary, do you sleep with your swords on?

Hindsight is 20/20

I remember hearing an interview with Goo Goo Dolls, and the lead singer said: "If we knew we we're going to be famous, we would have picked a different name."

That's right up there on my bad list. Also, pretty much anything from the hair-band metal era: Ratt, Warrant, Winger, ...

Chad Allan and the Expressions

This is a horrible name even for the 60s. It was a 50's naming convention hangover, that was out of step with the band's music. A band that would eventually be named The Guess Who. I am not sure if The Guess Who was a good name - considering The Who. However, without the name change Chad Allen and the Expressions would have stayed playing highschool sock-hops in Winnipeg.

myspace is great for bad names

found one today "CopperShaft" or something like that.
made me feel sooo dirty.

I tried coming up with a pretentious one for my project but
"gotterdammerungbelly" just didn't have the right ring to it.

A trip down memory lane

The Legion.

I remember when those guys use to practice at NAL. I filled in on drums for them for a gig once

That was when they we're called "DUMBASS"

It was fun. I got to sit behind the kit and watch as they started some punk rock chaos amongst the audience and themselves.

I haven't heard those guys in a while.... Typhus misses the Legion's obnoxiously raunchy sense of humor.

found another one

on myspace.

"Earthgoat" as opposed to what, MoonGoat?
what is it with Australia and animals?
WolfMother and Earthgoat. What's next "RooCat"?
are there even any wolves down under?

And hey Breathe, I thought yours was like "go breathe in your own neighbourhood" kind of a gangsta thing.

HOOTIE!!!! ARHGG!

Don't get me started!

When I was living in Singapore in 1997, I was having a Canadian Party - flew in Labatts ICE, had taped CFL games going on, made Caesars with little plastic hockey stick scewers, and had 100% Canuck music on rotation - 54/40 came on (You guessed it - I Go Blind) and of course everyone said "Hey that's a cover of HOOTIE and THE BLOWFISH". Arhg, I said... "NO. HOOTIE covered a Vancouver band called 54/40!" "No you're wrong. They must have covered HOOTIE," my guests retorted.

Needless to say, due to Singapore's criminal justice system. I left the country.

That sounds aggrevating

If I was at that party someone would've had to chase me off with a stick.

How about worst trends in band names?

In the 80's, I remember it was about animals i.e. - Ratt, colored animals i.e.- Whitesnake, White Lion, White Wolf, then along came the rhyming names - Bang Tango, Danger Danger, Tora Tora. The most recent bad trend in band names is "THE" in front of everything - The White Stripes, The Strokes, The Vines, The Killers etc. Did I forget any?

Whitesnake was formed in the 70's

But that's beside the point..

I always liked the name "The the".....but they were way ahead of the "The" trend. The only band I like that starts with "The" is "The Haunted". ( at least that's the only other "the" band I can think of off the top of my head that hasn't been mentioned yet..... )

I never was fond of "White Lion". I saw this Metal Maniacs video once where they were filmed casually walking around the streets of somewhere in Asia. One of the members tore into someone on the street for not having heard the name "White Lion" before..... Those guys were "poseurs".... 80's hair bands like that were giving metal a bad name!

At least David Coverdale of Whitesnake use to sing for Deep Purple.

Yeah that's the worst name

Bush Pilots.
Bushpilots.

Say it in French: Bouche Pee Lowts
Say it in Canadian: Bish Pie Lots
Say it in American: George W Pilots

Wrong no matter how you say it. Definitely the worst!

Mission Accomplished?

Too funny Stewie

Early on we wanted to use a photo of Bush in his circa 1971 National Guard gear, but they remain the stuff of legend.

Hard to get a photo of a guy who apparently never showed up to work period.

Damn them Houston hookers musta been distracting!!!

Spandau Ballet

Come on. How can this not be on the list!

Yuck!

1. I hate ballet.
2. Spandau is some prison in Berlin.
3. The band must have been Mike Myers' inspiration for sprokets

"It had a good beat and you could dance to it, i give it a ten."

love truck 60's cover band

i did once have a short lived 60's cover band named "love truck" - though i thought it was a cool name... but, then again cool = -amos Smiling

the worst was a christian band (hope they're not out there using this name still) A New Direction. it's something that looks harmless on paper - but when pronounced ??? file that under, "what were they thinking?!!"

"hey buffy, wanna come and see A New Direction at our church tonight?"

maybe they should have opted for, "Hoof Hearted" or "Hungry Soviet" or "Who Flung Doo"? i dunno?!

as far as king of the worst - Air Supply surely needs to be on the list - though i'd love to discover a punk or regae band that did covers of their songs.

Love Truck is awesome.

though my favourite so far is "Hoof Hearted" LOL.
they should open for "Earth Goat".

and regarding Air Supply, I'm sure there is already a tribute punk album with their tunes. My friend sent me one song. I'll have to find it.

Too funny

'A New Direction' is hilarious. It was probably one the guy's church pure grandmas who came up with the name, and they wouldn't dare tell her why they shouldn't use it. Smiling

I've got one.

Out of the bands I've been in, the worst name would probably have to be "Sunshine From The Ground" ... aiya Shocked

Our fearless band leader came up with this one. He lived on a farm, so we'd have to drag our gear through the mud and horseshit to go play in a loft in his barn.

After a month we fired him and started a new band.
