Hello Canada!!!

Submitted by Heythere8 on Mon, 2006-07-17 23:30. (from Heythere8's myspace blog)

As some of you may or may not know I just finished partaking as an entertainer on Canadian Idol. Last week I was let go from the show and sent back to the world of independent music, that I love and know so well. I am completely overwhelmed by the support and love that this country is giving me. My main objective throughout the Idol experience was to connect with the hearts of the people who so faithfully watch the show. It was an extremely huge honor to be able to sing in front of 3 million people over the past three weeks. When the camera light came on and I looked through that lens, it was all about them- and it was one of the most powerful experiences I have ever had. I wanted to write a quick thank you to all of you who have been behind my music career over the past ten years with Easily Amused. We are gonna continue to make the best music we possibly can and plan to have a new album out soon! For those of you who stumbled upon this, please check out the following projects that Renee (the other half of EA) and I have been working on...and we will meet up when we come to play in your town soon!http://www.songforafrica.comhttp://www.myspace.com/easilyamusedbandhttp://www.cdbaby.com/easilyamused2http://www.cdbaby.com/easilyamusedLove,Keith

Making it so far is pretty damn impressive, and the experience of singing infront of 3 million people is priceless. Good on you. Good thing are going to continue to happen for you and Renee!

Awesome.

stewie Do you think American er... Canadian Idol helps you?

Do you think being on Canadian is going to help your career from a marketing point of view? I certainly would think the experience - which must have been enormously challenging - would be invaluable, but in a growing world of disposable celebrity, do you think Canadian Idol helps or hurts the participants in the long run?

I ask with utmost respect. I know many people might want to start "Idol-bashing" but that is not what I am after with my question.

kay The word of the day is....Exposure

First and foremost Keith - huge congrats! Regardless of the outcome, you've exposed yourself to an audience of over 3 million people and that has got to make you take a step back! It's no small feat, that's for sure and I'm glad you were able to take advantage of the opportunity.

While I can't say that I'm a huge fan of the 'Idol-ism' that continues to sweep the nation, I do see Stewie's point of the dime store celebrity.

With so many shows on the air that seem to be nothing more than a reincarnation of a format that worked for someone else (be it cooking, cars, construction, interior design and even child care!) the one thing that can't be disputed by paticipating in a forum such as Idol is.....exposure.

And while it may not be for everyone, there is value in that. Not necessarily that it has to lead to a major deal, but if your goal is to get your music out, heard and discovered by the world at large, the almighthy tv can be a powerful way to get it done.

On that note, another one of our Vancouver rock stars Jenny Galt (formerly of Cherry Bomb) is currently on that show Rock Star Supernova something? (is that it?) with Tommy Lee, Dave Navarro and others judging and the world at large voting on their performances...I haven't seen it (the show) but having met her during New Music West and seeing her play, I really hope that there is something that she can leverage out of doing the show that allows her to make music for a living - a GOOD living!
