Garage Entertainment began a new trend in local live entertainment with the unveiling of it's "UNPLUGGED" Series. The "cou de gras" of local entertainers have performed "Unplugged", a naked version of their full on rock sets. The Media Club in Vancouver hosts this series on the last Tuesday of every month. It is an intimate environment with terrific sound: the perfect home for the series. Fans can interact with the artists they usually see on large stages.
Performances have included:
Art of Dying: The "Cream" of Vancouver, fresh off their 99.3 The Fox "Seeds" win, these talented musicians have lent their wonderful skill to us on two occasions. They first performed at Unplugged on April 25th, 2006 as our special "uninvited guests", blowing us all away with a full set from their forthcoming cd. They also performed on July 25th, 2006.
The Turn & Patrick Gavigan: After winning best vocalist of New Music West 2006, Patrick Gavigan (lead vocalist from The Turn) agreed to be our special uninvited guest on June 15th, 2006. His set was powerful and emotive, featuring wonderful renditions of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" as well as Jane's Addiction's hottest song, "Jane Says". Two originals were also featured including "Cut to Pieces" which has launched his band The Turn into mini stardom amongst the Vancouver independent music scene. The Turn, his full band has performed twice, launching the series as our headliner on April 25th, 2006 and performing again on September 26th, 2006. The September set truly established this band as a group that could captivate any crowd, plugged in or acoustic. Bass player Don Beadoin also performed a toned down jazz improvisation that showed the dynamic ability of this group.
Chris Witoski: Chris Witoski, who launched himself into the Vancouver independent music scene with his band "Splittract" joined Art of Dying as an ensemble of some of Vancouver's elite musicians. His solo efforts also include a very strong disc to be released late 2006. Chris has played twice for us at Unplugged, blowing away the many lucky enough to hear his dynamic approach to song writing. With the looks, talent and showmanship, Chris Witoski will be an up and commer on the scene for many years to come. His performance included a rare rendition of The Police's "Message in a bottle", as well as his hit single "Chance" which has begun to get regular rotation on 99.3 The Fox.
