| Biography: | The Bushpilots were formed in Spring 2002 in Ottawa, influenced by all things rootsy, bluesy and country ... the plan was initially to be more of a country rock band, but Gibson Les Pauls and feedback have a way of changing that.
By September 2003, after a bit of tweaking of personnel, Kevin Smith joined original members Jeff Monette, Tom Gillon and Rob Bennett to complete the lineup.
The once aspiring country rock band has evolved into a barnstorming take-no-prisoners live rawk juggernaut that often teeters on the brink of chaos without completely falling apart.
The model for this chaos is Neil Young and Crazy Horse, with some Dylan, Springsteen, Steve Earle and Georgia Satellites influences thrown in for good measure.
The band's debut, Sonic Scenery, was proudly recorded in 16 track analog by Kathleen Edwards/Howe Gelb producer Dave Draves at Little Bullhorn Studios in Ottawa and mastered by George Graves at The Lacquer Channel in Toronto. It was released to critical and popular acclaim in May, 2005.
In addition to Draves on keyboards, the album also features guest appearances by Good2Go's Maureen Hogan on vocals, and pedal steel player extraordinaire (some of the country still remains!) Pat Robillard.
Sonic Scenery has been embraced by college radio in central Canada and has become a staple on Carleton University's 93.1 CKCU-FM.
2006 plans for more incendiary live performances and the recording of the follow up album, again with Dave Draves, for release by November.
