I've been listening to this girl Laura Warshauer a lot lately! Her music is really relaxing, and her lyrics are really deep. She kind of reminds me a bit of Jewel. Here is her myspace page, listen to her stuff, tell me what you think!

Rock Version of Nightmare Before Christmas opening theme ("This is Halloween")

So a friend of mine showed me this cool rock version of the opening theme for Nightmare Before Christmas, performed by Marilyn Manson. I'm not a fan of him, but he surprisingly did a good job on this.

I used watch this movie a lot, it's an awesome movie!

Damn, I can't believe Kanye West would be that stubborn.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-631TgPP2s

I understand that Kanye didn't win at the MTV awards, but personally he didn't have to necessarily act like such a child and swearing out loud in front of a bunch of people backstage.

I dunno, what do you guys think?

Introducing 'pride (preliminary version)' and 'jordan (preliminary version)'

Hello everyone:

Music doesn't come to me that often these days. Late last week and over the weekend, I was blessed with a couple of ideas that I'd love to share with you guys:

pride (preliminary version):
The mood to write piano stuff comes and goes for me. This one came out of no where, and it's probably the best representation of how I play (i.e. improvise) piano in real life. (Still done in FLStudio though.) I always play slow and somber. The section you hear at 1:01 and in the outro is a pretty common stylistic thing for me. Not sure what that's actually called though.

Chicken or Egg

Bono, lead singer of the rock band U2, is famous throughout the entertainment industry for being more than just a little self-righteous.

At a recent U2 concert in Glasgow, Scotland, he asked the audience for total quiet.

Then, in the silence, he started to slowly clap his hands, once every few seconds. Holding the audience in total silence, he said into the microphone, 'Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies.'

Copyfraud: The Other Side of Stealing Music

The original post was found on Boing Boing.

[quote]Copyfraud is everywhere. False copyright notices appear on modern reprints of Shakespeare's plays, Beethoven's piano scores, greeting card versions of Monet's Water Lilies, and even the U.S. Constitution. Archives claim blanket copyright in everything in their collections. Vendors of microfilmed versions of historical newspapers assert copyright ownership. These false copyright claims, which are often accompanied by threatened litigation for reproducing a work without the owner's permission, result in users seeking licenses and paying fees to reproduce works that are free for everyone to use.

Your Favorite Obscure Genre

Okay - so maybe not your 'favorite', but what are some obscure genres that you enjoy? By obscure, I mean genres that don't get thrown into the mainstream culture. For example, none of my friends know what trip hop is. (It's not really a genre I know well ... I'm just diving in. But, I do know I'm loving it right now.)

Quote:
Trip hop (also known as the Bristol sound or Bristol acid rap) is a term coined by music journalist Andy Pemberton in the UK magazine Mixmag to describe the hip hop instrumental "In/Flux", a 1993 single by DJ Shadow, and other similar tracks released on the Mo' Wax label and being played in London clubs at the time. "In/Flux", with its mixed up bpms, spoken word samples, strings, melodies, bizarre noises, phat bass, and slow beats and grooves, gave the listener the impression they were on a musical trip.[1] The trip hop description was applied to the musical trend in the mid-1990s of downtempo electronic music that grew out of England's hip hop and house scenes. The Trip hop genre is quite the phenomena in that many of the artists labeled in the genre express distaste in the label. Many artists have said they would much rather be labeled as Hip Hop or not have a genre at all. Sometimes characterized by a reliance on breakbeats and a sample-heavy, often moody sound pioneered by Coldcut's remix of Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid in Full", trip hop gained notice via popular artists such as Massive Attack, Moloko, Portishead, Tricky, Björk, Thievery Corporation, Amon Tobin, and rock-influenced sound groups such as Ruby, California's DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, Gorillaz, Unkle, and the UK's Howie B. Morcheeba, originating from Hythe in Kent, Londoners Glideascope and New York's Bowery Electric are also often associated with this sound. The latest additions to this line of performers are Jem and Australia's Spook. The Bristol Sound came out of the wider Bristol Urban Culture scene.

Slower is better?

I've been hearing about the music videos of Sigur Ros and finally found some on Last.FM.
It's really powerful music and images but it seems that they just slowed their music recordings and video footage down a whole lot to get that effect.
And it seems the same with all of their music I've heard so far.
But I like it... just like the Cocteau Twins from way back then.
