It's always interesting when a "business" shows interest in what you do... Especially when it has to do with something you love doing and would like to think that you might eventually be able to get paid to do it. This blog isn't about me this time... It's actually about my partner. He's a great emcee, and not long after he finally got himself a myspace account he was approached by a salesman from the following start up music label http://zoomoozik.com/bands.jsp

So it's been an interesting week for me. My new job is great, but keeps me ridiculously busy. I've been holdin onto my monthly music budget for a couple of months for something big, but I can't decide what to buy. And I had a great convo with someone about being an emcee that inspired me to finally record a new track that features me as an emcee instead of me as a producer. It just so happens that it was his instrumental that inspired me to finish the track too. The best part of this is the fact that this is a track that I've had written for well over two years, but was basically unable to either find or create a beat that worked for it, so it's a huuuuuge relief. It's interesting b/c I've been a perfectionist about this track, and until now I haven't even felt like it was even remotely close to what it could be. Now that I'm almost done with it (it's a draft that I will post if it's ok with the producer who will remain unnamed until I speak to him about it), I'm really excited to see what people think of it. I know that it's possible that being overly invested in it could cloud my judgement about the quality of the track, but in many ways that's not even an issue anymore... While I want it to be well recieved, I'm feelin good simply because I finally accomplished the goal of completing a track that in many ways I thought I never would. I'm thinkin it will be posted later this week.

As most of you who read my blogs know I've been a teacher at a middle school in the Bronx for the last four years and I've been fortunate in many ways during my time there. I've gotten to create an arts class on my favorite type of music, which gave me an opportunity to connect to my students beyond the normal teacher/student relationship and also expand my own skills as an artist... Teaching has truly given me the incentive to really refine my work, and that has opened many a new door for me.
