SUPERFUNKTION are the biggest thing to hit Tokyo since Godzilla. They’ve had more hits on MySpace than James Brown’s kissed himself, and are currently cutting up more Asian disco floors than Kool & The Gang at a breakdance competition. Masterminded by chief songwriters, Canadian lead singer, Todd Shymko (aka Toddy), and Dutch-born backing vocalist and percussionist, Marcel Albert (aka Von Groovemeister), this explosive duo first hooked up in the summer of 2006, laid down their first FUNK-flexing tunes in spring 2007 (mini album "disfunksonfire!"), and will be one of the bands to watch out for in 2008.
Greatly complimented by some of Tokyo`s finest up-and-coming musical talent in the line-up: - Minato Hattori (bass); Chris "Tree-Top" Wells (drums); Saito Hirotsugu (guitar); Kai Ruthrof (keys); Marcus "Hitman" Pittman (sax) - and are, in their own words “Going to be the first multi-cultural band to break out of Japan and entertain the world.” And who would doubt it? Full of in-the-pocket grooves and with more hooks than a butcher`s meat locker. Every gig is a party, every performance a high-energy affair guaranteed to put love in your heart, a smile on your face and a spring in your step.
The band carry an old-skool aesthetic with a nu-skool edge, and are heading down the FUNK freeway. So, hitch a ride, as SUPERFUNKTION eat up those white lines on the road to Groove City. Get in and strap yourselves down. The engine’s already started.
